On Sunday, Barça took on Real Sociedad at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys for Match Day 7 of the 2025/26 La Liga season. The 2-1 victory secured a vital 3 points for the Blaugrana, allowing them to leapfrog Real Madrid and reclaim pole position in the table.
Individual Performances
Looking beyond the result, there are some key performances which allowed Barça to come back from a one goal deficit (as a result of a goal from Odriozola in the 31st minute) and win this game. To begin with, Pedri was excellent (as usual) and allowed Barça to control the tempo and slow down the play at times when it seemed Real Sociedad were gaining momentum. Furthermore, Lamine Yamal made his return from injury as a substitute in the 58th minute. In the 59th minute, he made an immediate impact as he provided a great assist (dribbling past one player and crossing the ball with his weak foot) to Robert Lewandowski, who scored the winning goal (Sofascore).
Team Performance
As a team, the performance was good overall. Throughout the beginning of the first-half, Barça held possession of the ball in Real Sociedad's half but failed to provide much threat. After the Real Sociedad goal, Barça sprung into life as they became more direct with their actions and took on shots from further out. In the end, it was a superb Rashford cross which met the head of Koundé that resulted in Barça equalizing the game at 1-1 in the 43rd minute. In the second-half, Barça had the bulk of possession and created a lot of high quality chances, but were largely unable to finish them (with the exception of Robert Lewandowski's header in the 59th minute).
Overall, it was a solid team performance (without many key players) which lacked decisiveness in front of goal.
